Lyrics: Ratbike

Rat Bike
Dale/ Datta  - July 9,2015

Some poser says “What do you guys ride?”
If you’re talking to me- a dyna wide glide

1) Fred here rides a heritage softtail
Nasty and Jay- FLH
Waste has a shovelhead custom hardtail
Yeah they’re all Harleys. What did you think?
Same question from another slob
Wild Bill says I ride a street bob.

2) And Al has an electro glide ultra classic
But the best bike here, the one you should get
Wrench rides a rat bike; a panshovel custom hardtail
With a jockey shift. Go on -give it a spin
SOLO: GUITAR

Hey- don’t you wanna ride?
Come on - Let’s take it outside.

3) Nothing on the handlebars but the throttle
Left foot clutch, Right foot brake.
Reach down with you left hand to shift it
by the open primary- and ain’t that great?
SOLO: SAX
Hey rub, are you gonna bail
On riding the Pan shovel custom hardtail?

Do you still want to know what the big boys ride?
Come on- let’s take it outside.

4) Johnny rides a chopped up “87 Sportster
Billy has a black Road King
Kip rides a shovelhead Custom Wideglide
Yeah they’re all Harleys. What did you think?

  1. He says me I’m hard to live with----Now, there’s a  surprise.
    Eb
I’ve been living with myself a long time---you'd think I'd realize
F Gm
I’m not winning any awards—but I’m not -cutting any deals.
Eb F C Gm
Kind like a run down house— not much curb appeal.

2) He’s says I drive him crazy— and that's one short drive
The engine is still ice cold--- when we arrive
I might be hard to live with- but this house does have a door
And if you ain’t leaving then stop complaining about me --not loving you anymore.
F C
  1. You thought you met someone who was wonderful
    Gm
You thought you met someone who was kind.
F C Gm
At least I speak in full sentences ---most of the time.

I could love you with my whole black heart but you know I’ll always be
the bad one you fell for. The one your mother doesn’t like.
And I’ll always be the way I am so stay --or take a hike.
4) Yeah I’m hard to live with----That’s not news to me.
Easy going” isn’t my middle name and it’s never going to be.

New songs for the Black Dog

Two new songs are ready to play at the Black Dog tomorrow evening. Dale has written a great tribute to his friend Bedford. It's called "Pete's Tune" so I'm no longer sure what Bedford's real name was.   We also have "Some Kind of Crazy" ready to debut.

Catch phrases

The words of a song are important but- truthfully- the audience only hears some of them unless they hear the song more than one time. No matter how well-crafted the lyrics are, only part of them get through. It's like writing a book than having people read only every other chapter.  Mike mentioned that repetition  in lyrics can be a good thing.  I tend to want to tell the whole story with a lot of words but having a strong catch phrase that people will really be able to hear will help draw the audience in to the song. Darn it- Mike is right again.

"Some sort of Crazy."

We've spent the last two rehearsals working on a new song called "Some sort of Crazy."  The idea for the song started with something Ric said. He commented on how his girlfriend thinks he is hard to live with and yes,  that is most likely true.   I wrote the song for Dale to sing-but then Dale has been busy and didn't have time to work on it. So, I rewrote the song so I could sing it.
